We discovered that the sway of hair that has had a high level of cholesterol penetration using "Hair Medulla Care," the first and original penetration technology in the world, creates an appealing impression.

Research results presented at the poster session of the 32nd IFSCC Congress (London)

TAKARA BELMONT Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Osaka, Chairman and President: Hidetaka Yoshikawa) is conducting applied research on the world's first and unique penetration technology "Hair Medulla Care" announced in 2020 to increase cholesterol in hair. We discovered that by allowing the product to penetrate the hair, the movement of the hair can be significantly improved, and this movement gives a more attractive impression to people. This research presentation will be included in a poster session at the 32nd IFSCC Congress (September 19-22, 2022, London), the most prestigious scientific conference in the cosmetics science field, where cosmetic engineers from around the world gather. announced.

<Research overview>
Up until now, research has been conducted into factors such as "shine" and "color tone" as elements that make hair beautiful. These express the appearance and beauty in still images, such as transparency and hair color. However, now with the use of SNS, the use of videos as an expression and communication tool is on the rise. In the future, we believe that the way hair moves is important as an element that expresses a person's impression, and we have undertaken research to make hair move more beautifully by approaching the entire hair, including the inside of the hair.

<Key points>
Applying the world's first and unique penetration technology "Hair Medulla Care" announced in 2020, we analyzed the penetration of cholesterol, a lipid component of hair, and the difference in "movement" when hair is shaken. The results showed that hair impregnated with cholesterol swayed ``bigger'' and ``longer.'' In addition, a survey was conducted to compare the movement of hair that had been impregnated with cholesterol through the Hair Medulla Care treatment (wig) and untreated hair (wig) to determine which hair was more attractive. The hair that has been treated with "Hair Medulla Care" has significantly improved movement, and as a result, the hair that has been infiltrated with cholesterol through "Hair Medulla Care" sways "bigger" and "for a longer period of time," creating an attractive impression. I found that it gives The research results announced this time will be incorporated into new hair care products to be released in 2023.

■ Improved cholesterol penetration and hair movement using the world's first and unique penetration technology "Hair Medulla Care"

We focused on cholesterol, which has been reported to be related to hair moisture content, and evaluated its penetration into the inside of the hair. As a result, in hair treated with "Hair Medulla Care" (HMC + Chol), penetration was seen throughout the hair, including the central medulla.

In addition, as a result of analyzing the difference in ``hair movement when shaken'' between hair impregnated with cholesterol by the ``Hair Medulla Care'' treatment (HMC + Chol) and untreated hair (untreated), we found that It was found that the hair sways "bigger" and "for a longer period of time."

[Analyzing the movement of swaying hair]

■ Achieve attractive, moving hair with a cohesive and supple sway from root to tip.

790 ordinary women between the ages of 15 and 90 compared the behavior of their hair (wigs) with cholesterol infiltrated through the Hair Medulla Care treatment (wigs) and untreated hair (wigs). We conducted a survey to find out whether people find it attractive. As a result, approximately 80% of respondents found treated hair attractive (see graph 1).

In other words, the ``Hair Medulla Care'' treatment infiltrates cholesterol to fill the ``gaps within the hair'' and firmly supplies ``lipids within the hair'' to improve the physical properties of each hair. As a result of this, we believe we have been able to create ``swinging hair'' that gives a cohesive, supple, and swaying look that gives an attractive impression.

Hair is a research field with many unknown points, but the detailed structure and functions of the medulla, the central part of the hair, are still largely unknown. Our Cosmetic Research and Development Center has developed a unique technology to directly observe the internal structure of hair in order to scientifically analyze the details of the medulla structure, which is the core of hair. The unique feature of this technology is that it allows us to cut hair vertically and observe it, which is our unique method and is the first of its kind in the industry. Using this technology, we were the first in the world to successfully observe the structural changes that occur in medulla. Furthermore, we succeeded in filling the porous medulla and maintaining that state, and developed ``Hair Medulla Care,'' a method that beautifully changes the appearance of hair.
