Hair Medulla Care
A world first *. Discovered the existence of two types of medulla, black and white!
* Announced at the 2020 International Federation of Cosmetic Technicians (IFSCC), based on our research.

Hair consists of three layers: cuticle, cortex and medulla. The medulla at its central axis has been a part that has been poorly understood for many years.
In 2017, TAKARA BELMONT was the first in the world to discover the existence of two types of medulla, black and white, with the acquisition of a unique technology for observing the inside of the hair in the vertical direction. In 2020, we announced the technology of "Hair Medulla Care" that freely controls black and white medulla, which surprised the hair science world.
Hair care that continuously changes from the core is a different dimension of quality. The Medulla Approach is the new cornerstone of future hair care.

Black Medulla White Medulla

The difference between the two types of medulla, black and white, is the presence or absence of voids.
By manipulating the medulla, the appearance of the hair can be changed.

Conventionally, the method of observing the inside of the hair has generally been to use "slicing", but TAKARA BELMONT, which has acquired the technology to cut the hair vertically, focuses on the structural change of the medulla, which is the core of the hair.
We have been working on the elucidation of the medulla, which was an unknown area.

Medical equipment

Using equipment used to cut tissue in clinical settings, he succeeded in cutting hair vertically with a good surface condition while searching for various conditions. It became possible to easily perform longitudinal sections, which had been extremely difficult until then, and led to the clarification of the medulla.

From the outside, the cuticle (hair epidermis), cortex (cortex), and medulla (hair medulla) have a three-layer structure. Since hair is extremely fine, hard and has a peculiarity, it was common to observe the structure by cross-slicing (horizontally) as shown in this photo. It was revealed for the first time that there are two types of medulla that exist vertically along the central axis by using a unique vertical cutting technique.

Observation of vertically cut hair sections with a microscope revealed the fact that there are two types of medulla: black medulla (Black Medulla), which is clearly visible, and white medulla (White Medulla), which is difficult to see at first glance. was. Black Medulla White Medulla many voids in its fibrous structure, so it scatters light and appears black.

This discovery clarified that hair, which was thought to be free of medulla, may also contain medulla that is difficult to recognize, such as White Medulla.
Is the core of the hair white or black? The difference also affects the appearance of the hair. It is noticeable in light hair colors, especially gray hair, where melanin has little effect. It was also found that Black Medulla is the part that is not glossy and is conspicuous white and is floating from the surroundings, and White Medulla is the part that is glossy and transparent.

Black Medulla: Percentage of voids in Medulla: 28% White Medulla: Percentage of voids in Medulla: 13%

Structural differences between Black Medulla and White Medulla

Black Medulla has a fine and porous fiber structure. White Medulla has a thick fiber structure, few voids, and a difficult boundary with the cortex.

from black to white. Succeeded in filling from the core.

White Medulla for beautiful hair and Black Medulla for bad hair. Then, if you change black to white, does the impression of your hair change? The technique of Hair Medulla Care was established from such a hypothesis.
In order to fill the gaps in Black Medulla, we have newly developed a reducing composition that contains a unique combination of penetrant and protein hydrolyzate (PPT) such as keratin. Instead of forcibly opening and penetrating the tissue like alkaline agents, it gently and slowly reaches the core while remaining weakly acidic.
Moreover, the effect is long-lasting. If you treat a hair bundle with a gray hair rate of 5%, the appearance of the hair will clearly change. By using this technology, you can expand your horizons, not only to control wavy hair and curly hair due to aging, but also to reduce the damage caused by perms and coloring to as close to zero as possible. "We guarantee both hairstyles and a beautiful future for your hair." The time has already come when the ideal creation will come true.

Untreated → After Hair Medulla Care treatment → Shampoo once → Shampoo 28 times

Turn Black Medulla into a state like White Medulla

Voids are reduced by applying Hair Medulla Care to Black Medulla (untreated).
This situation is not temporary, even after shampooing 28 times.

Gray hair (untreated or treated) 5%: Black hair 95%

Has only Black Medulla
Implemented Hair Medulla Care for gray hair

Applying Hair Medulla Care to hair with a gray ratio of 5% will reduce the dusty swells on the surface and improve cohesion. It also creates a natural luster, making even gray hair stand out.
