The world's first and unique penetration technology "Hair Medulla Care" enables "melanin supplementation" for gray hair without melanin
- Oral presentation at the world's largest research presentation "Federation of International Cosmetic Engineers Association Cancun 2021" -

TAKARA BELMONT Co. Rise into beauty, Walk into life. Ltd. (Headquarters: Osaka City Chuo (Hidetaka Yoshikawa, Representative Director, Chairman and President) revealed that the world's first and unique penetration technology ``Hair Medulla Care'' dramatically increases the penetration of various ingredients into the hair. Although this increased penetration was applicable to fluorescent dyes of various properties, we found that it allowed cationic components to penetrate more uniformly throughout the hair.

[Key points]

■ Penetration of various fluorescent dyes

Regarding the penetration into the inside of the hair by "Hair Medulla Care", the penetration into the inside of the hair including medulla increased for all anionic, cationic, and lipophilic ingredients. In particular, cationic fluorescent dyes were found to penetrate more uniformly throughout the hair. (Figure 1)

■ Deep dyeing with basic hair dye
Since "Hair Medulla Care" increases the penetration of cationic ingredients, we observed changes in the appearance of hair when dyed with basic hair dye. As a result, by performing "Hair Medulla Care", the basic hair dye penetrated into the hair well, and the hair was dyed darker than usual. When observing the sections, it was observed that the basic hair dye, which normally only penetrates into the cuticle, was penetrating throughout the hair, including the medulla. (Figure 2)

■ Penetrates and replenishes melanin to gray hair that lacks melanin.
When we conducted a test to infiltrate gray hair with melanin using "Hair Medulla Care," the gray hair was clearly colored by melanin, and the presence of gray hair became noticeably less noticeable in a wig with 10% gray hair. (Figure 3)

Our Cosmetics Research and Development Center has succeeded in delivering basic pigments to the medulla, dyeing the entire hair in a beautiful tone, and allowing melanin to penetrate into the hair, which was previously impossible. "Hair Medulla Care" still has a lot of potential due to its high penetration power, but the results of this research have shown the possibility of new hair care that was not possible before.
In the future, we will take on the challenge of new possibilities for hair cosmetics by applying our unique penetration technology, ``Hair Medulla Care,'' and allowing various ingredients to penetrate into the medulla.

[Hair Medulla Care Overview]
Hair is a research field with many unknown points, but the detailed structure and functions of the medulla, the central part of the hair, are still largely unknown. Our Cosmetic Research and Development Center has developed a unique technology to directly observe the internal structure of hair in order to scientifically analyze the details of the medulla structure, which is the core of hair. The unique feature of this technology is that it allows us to cut hair vertically and observe it, which is our unique method and is the first of its kind in the industry. Using this technology, we succeeded for the first time in the world in observing the structural changes that occur in medulla. Furthermore, we succeeded in filling the hollowed medulla and maintaining its condition, and developed ``Hair Medulla Care,'' a method that beautifully changes the appearance of hair.
